Selecting An EMR

Make Sure End Users Are Involved. Meet with your physicians and staff to determine what features and functionality are necessary to meet their needs and maintain practice productivity/workflow. Prioritize those needs and meet with them during the selection process.

Employ A Competitive Selection Process. A competitive bid process is important. Take the time to meet with several competing vendors, ask questions and obtain product and service level pricing.

Don't Think One Product Can Do Everything.  Different vendors excel at different products. Don' settle for an EMR simply because you're already using their practice management system.

Conduct Site Reviews.  Conduct interviews and or site visits with end users at installed sites.

Develop a Rating System. Develop a numeric system of ranking the features outlined in your initial planning and RFP. Share this analysis with your end users.

Don't Purchase Based on Promises. Evaluate application on what's available today, not what is promised for tomorrow.
